1. What is the #AbMeriBaari campaign?

The #AbMeriBaari campaign is a nation-wide movement to build awareness around issues and priorities of India's 253 million adolescents and empower first-time adolescent voters to exercise their right to vote as well make their voices heard to 
adolescent priorities, such as education and health, by empowering them to excercize their choice through the right to vote,  #AbMeriBaari will ensure voices of Indian adolescents are heard and amplified through a film, social media, digital and radio campaigns.
 
2. How can I be a part of the #AbMeriBaari movement? 


If you are an organization, school or college, you can:
  • Host Ab Meri Baari film screening followed with discussions to engage with adolescents voters on their demands, concerns and stories
  • Use #AbMeriBaari on social media to highlight stories from the ground, talk about policies and schemes that affect adolescent lives and keep the conversation going.
  • Submit stories of adolescents from your institutions to highlight key issues and how they can be addressed
  • Join the "Ab Meri Baari" bus tour coming to your city soon! Email abhishek@dasra.org to know more. 

If you are an adolescent or a young voter, you can:
  • Use #AbMeriBaari to share your stories and priorities on social media
  • Watch and share the Ab Meri Baari Film with your peers on Whatsapp to drive engagement
  • Submit your unique story to be featured in the movement.

If you are from the media, you can:
  • Use #AbMeriBaari to talk about issues and raise awareness about adolescent priorities

3. India’s adolescent population- some numbers 

Number of adolescents - 253 million
Number of first time / new voters  – 84 million
Number of new voters between 18-19 – 15 million
The highest number of electors in 18-19 age group included in 2019 rolls are in Rajasthan (20.3 lakh), followed by West Bengal (20 lakh), Uttar Pradesh (16.76 lakh), Madhya Pradesh (13.6 lakh) and Maharashtra (11.99 lakh).

4. Why does the adolescent vote matter?

India’s 250+ million adolescents face multiple challenges in accessing even basic services such as education, sanitation, sexual health services and skill development. As 1.5 crore first-time adolescent voters, like you, vote for representatives of their choice, it will not only significantly affect their future but also raise accountability of elected representatives to deliver on schemes, policies and remedies that will help the young fulfill their potential and build a brighter future for the country.  

According to the analysis by The Indian Express, young voters will have a significant impact on the electoral outcomes of at least 282 constituencies, a number which is more than the majority required in Lok Sabha to form the Government of India. This means, each adolescent vote could be crucial to the result of the 2019 election.

5. Is the campaign associated with any political party / candidate?

Ab Meri Baari is purely a social awareness campaign to get the young to vote. It doesn't promote any political party, candidate or agenda. It is an initiative of Dasra, a nonprofit that works with adolescents.
