Jharkhand - Community Of Practice for Adolescents

Mitigating Backlash - A Community Of Practice Initiative
24 September | 9:30 am to 1:30 pm | Ranchi, Jharkhand

The Community Of Practice convening aims to build and amplify the collective voice from the ground up and drive collaborative action to ensure that adolescents are educated, healthy and empowered to make positive life choices.

Join us as we present our research findings on the manifestations of backlash against adolescents and youth-serving organizations in India, as well as the strategies deployed by non-profits in addressing this backlash. Our aim is to spark conversations around how we can mainstream the issue of backlash, and ultimately bring funders, governments and non-profits together to acknowledge and address it.

We invite you to attend the Jharkhand Community of Practice for Adolescents gathering, register here.
Agenda and Venue details to follow!

About Community Of Practice and Backlash Report:

Community Of Practice:
Dasra’s 10to19 Collaborative launched the Jharkhand State Community of Practice in June 2019, with the aim of providing a platform where members can share best practice insights from their experiences, collaboratively brainstorm around solutions for complex challenges, and access research and knowledge from the sector. The initiative was developed basis an extensive Deepdive into the current situation of adolescents in Jharkhand.

Mitigating Backlash to Empower Adolescent girls:
One of the flagship initiatives as part of the Community of Practice, is a deep dive into the phenomenon of backlash, building on our first report ‘Action Reaction: Understanding and Overcoming Backlash Against Girls’ Exercise of Agency in India.’

Empowerment of women and girls is not only their entitlement, but also a key factor in poverty alleviation and national development. While civil society organizations and governments have made special efforts to empower girls, and equip them with agency, including knowledge, power, voice, and self-efficacy. The pace of social change, however, maybe thwarted by the unintended adverse consequences of, or backlash against attempts to challenge existing power structures and relations. As the study comes to a close, we are pleased to be able to invite you for a discussion on the emerging insights from the report.
